Yang yoga relates to active, strength-building poses. Yin yoga relates to mobility; poses are held a little longer than normal to help with flexibility. We start with a warm up and then a yang practice, and then we transition into our yin practice.
Yin yoga applies a healthy, gentle pressure to deeper connective tissues like ligaments, joints, and bones to facilitate the strengthening and stability of the tissues. It has meditative qualities and benefits. Yin yoga incorporates Chinese models of understanding the energetic, inter-relational qualities of the human mind and body.
If you are interested in delving deeper into your yoga practice, or ready to try something different than fast-paced physical styles of yoga, this class may be for you.
