What is Integral Yoga for Autoimmune Diseases?
Yoga means coming together. Integral means the core or essential components. When we put this together, we have the core components that come together to create healing or wholeness. Healing is a sense of balance, harmony, order, and wholeness.
Yoga offers several tools that can help restore a sense of balance:
Pranayama (breathing techniques)
Deep, slow, and rhythmic whole-body breathing activates rest-renew-heal response, reduces anxiety and fear, supports your immune system, and releases healing hormones
Asana (physical movements)
Fosters prana, blood & lymph circulation, reduces anxiety and depression, improves sleep, increases capacity and resilience, improves overall health and wellbeing
Relaxation
Stress is the greatest and most powerful factor that’s holding in autoimmune diseases. Yoga activates the parasympathetic nervous system. This reduces stress and supports healing states.
Dhyana (Meditation)
Works with the mind, thoughts, & emotions. Our thoughts and mindset can affect how our cells behave, influencing the enzymes and hormones they produce.
Svadhyaya (Self-Inquiry)
The person who is practicing is the arbitrator of their own healing. We begin to awaken our body's own innate sense of wisdom and ability to heal by engaging in practices and lifestyle changes, and then noticing how these practices and changes are making us feel. As the facilitator, I do not offer medical or dietary advice. Rather, I invite you to notice what is happening in your own body as it responds to practices or lifestyle changes that I may invite you to try.
Integral yoga for autoimmune diseases is best practiced on a 1-1 basis, as each person's needs are unique according to their particular condition, needs, and interests. The goal of this practice is to bring one into balance, or harmony, within oneself. It offers a way of managing one's condition to improve one's quality of life through holistic practices and methodologies.
